Ultralights – A Less Expensive Way To Fly Have you always dreamed of being a pilot but found that it was an extremely expensive hobby. Well, consider this. Become an ultralight pilot. Ultralights are not a step up or down. It is a step into a whole different world of aviation. It will still cost quite a bit of money, but the amount pales when compared to general aviation prices. The really great thins is that today’s ultralights are so much safer and better built and more fun to fly than anything offered in yesteryear. The advances in ultralight construction are mind blowing. The makes and models that are available these days are many and varied. Surely, something will strike your fancy. The true definition of an ultralight is that it carries one person and meets certain weight , fuel and speed restrictions to fit into this class of aviation. However, there aretwo-seater ultralight trainer planes that so that you can learn with a qualified instructor. These two seaters have an FAA exemption through the Experimental Aircraft Association, the United States Ultralight Association and Aero Sports Connection. So, you need to get with a qualified instructor from one of these three organizations and learn to fly from them. The FAA allowed ultralights to not be registered and licensed in anticipation that the ultralight community would regulate itself. The three organizations listed above have done a masterful job of doing just this. This insures everyone’s safety by having excellent training standards in place. You next step would be to purchase or build your own ultralight aircraft and before you know it, you will find yourself sitting at work just itching to get home so that you can have a nice evening flight before the sun goes down.
